New Swiss CI Survey now published: The status of Competitive Intelligence in Swiss SMEs

M. Giese, B. Stoll, Dr S. Schuppisser

In late 2010 a collaborative, cross-industry survey has been launched to investigate the status of Competitive Intelligence (CI) in Swiss SMEs.

CI – for this survey has been clearly described - as a systematic and continuous process: from the collection of data, information and (human) intelligence to review, validation and analysis. The deliverables: insights regarding competitors, markets and the overall market environment. They allow decision makers to (a) anticipate relevant market changes, (b) consider implication for their tactics and strategies and (c) proactively stay ahead of the competition.

Decision makers in these enterprises have taken the time to describe their own organisation. The Results have delivered insights in the following three areas:

1. How is CI organized? -> Insights into organisational structure, funding and roles and responsibilities

2. Who uses CI services, to what extend and for which type of decision?-> Insights into the utilization of CI products and deliverables, with particular emphasis on impact on decision making

3. How are enterprises organised regarding counterintelligence?-> Insights regarding security levels, training and recent attacks

SCIA Survey 2010 - Results

We like to thank all all members and friends of SCIA who participated in the SCIA Survey 2010.

About 10% of the SCIA community took the time to reply.

The majority of repondants is happy with format, timing and frequency of the event, but has expressed interest in more interactive formats as well as more case-study oriented discussions and reviews.

The front runner for topics seems to be 'CI Legal & Ethical Guidelines'.

For more information, please go the membership section under 'Resources' and review a full presentation slides for the results detailed by question.

Thanks again for your time and participation! Watch out for the programme announcements, as the board will make an effort to incorporate as many of your ideas as possible for the rest of the year!
